Shoot 3 Evaluation, Description
Step 1: Description
When and where did it happen?
The Shoot took place on Friday 18th October 2019 with the location being Inside the Daphne Oram Building, for David Bradshaw’s Retirement
Who was involved and what did other people do?
The people were involved where the organizers of the event in which I communicated with them to make sure it can altogether.
What did you do yourself?
I was the photographer which meant that I could get the shots that I was after. This was done with it being done without an assistant.
What was the result of these actions?
The result of these actions allowed a series of Portraits to come out afterwards to be used in creating the book. With the selected shots going to the client
Shoot 3 Evaluation, Feelings
Step 2: Feelings
What did you feel leading up to the event?
Leading up to the shoot I did not plan on doing this shoot but due to the noise were I was working I decided to investigate what went on in the area.
What did you feel during the event?
During the shoot, I felt that pleased with some of the shots that I have come out with the outcome looking strong. During the shoot, I felt annoyed that I had poor lighting and not having a tripod because having high ISO did not work.
What did you feel after the event?
I felt upset that some of the shots were not as strong as they could have been due to the lighting situation. This meant some of the shots were not the highest level that I can do.
How do you look back on the situation?
Looking back at the shoot I know that I can do better than some of the shots I came back with but this will take time to understand low light photography.
What do you think other people felt during the event?
I am not sure apart form the guest of honour who was pleased that I was photographing the event. I do not know as I was not in communication with them to make sure that the event went all good and there was no problem with them doing there own bit for the hosts.
How do you think others feel about the event now?
After the event, I got an email saying, So I know the client was pleased
“Many thanks, Nathanael for the photos. They look good.
Kind regards,
Tim”
Shoot 3: Evaluation: The evaluation & Analysis
Step 3: Evaluation
Step 4: Analysis
What went well during the event or activity? Why was that?
During the shoot, I think even though there were challenges I think I managed to get shots that worked with what had been a set back originally. During the shoot, I think that With getting the portraits at the end worked because it allowed me to capture the shot of it looking cruel and tender and make it how I wanted it for the main book.
What didn’t go so well? Why was that?
The big problem has been the noise with the subject looking grainy which made it harder to be used for stock. This is something which is harder for my camera. This has been the main problem and not having a tripod so I can have a slower shutter speed to create a lower ISO.
What was your contribution?
For the shoot I was the photographer, this allowed me to capture portraits of the subjects to allow them to stand out to everyone.
What contribution did other people make?
For this shoot, you had the people making the speech and the guy filming the event for it all to come together. This meant it was a joint effort from all parts.
Analysis: What have you learned from the situation, event or activity?
To develop this for the future I think If I am to do this again that I need to practice Low light photography and make sure that it works together. I have learned the negatives of having a high ISO. This, not the end of the world for this as it was for achieving purpose only for the main shoot.
Shoot 3: Evaluation: Conclusion & Action Plan
Step 5: Conclusion
Step 6:
Action Plan
To what positive experience did the event, situation or activity lead?
A positive experience this has led me to is getting used to shooting low-level lights and learning the problems when it comes to low light photography. This event has also allowed me to get a portrait for the book. I am pleased with the outcome as this was not a planned shoot and it came about by me investigating.
To what negative experience did the event, situation or activity lead?
The negative situation was the noise on the images which meant I had to make the images look soft for them to work and look decent when working on this shoot I have learned more about the lighting and this is something going into semester 2 I would like to learn how to make sure low light photography works and to make it look amazing without always needing flash.
What will you do differently if the event, situation or activity were to happen again in the future?
If this shoot was done again, I will need to work on getting the lighting levels correct in the area as some of the shots had too much noise due to the way it was shot. In the future, I would use a Tripod to have a slower shutter speed or having a flash to make it stand out without the noise in the shot.
Which skills do you need to develop yourself in a similar event, situation or activity?
I need to learn how to do low light photography for this to come together in the future. Which allow me to go further.
Action plan
As I am not Planning on shooting this again because this was a one-off event, I will edit them and send it off to the client.
